🌅 India Rising
There are a lot of things that money can’t buy you, and unfortunately, experience is one of them.
What’s the difference between a recruit, training to become a soldier, and a sergeant?
What’s the difference between an entry-level developer and a senior developer?
Years of experience.
Unbeknownst to many, experience is nothing less than a superpower that we can possess.
Money can buy you training, resources, tutors, assistance, and almost everything else you need to excel in the activity you wish to undertake — everything but experience.
The journey changes you
A person with years of experience in a particular niche functions differently as compared to an amateur. The failures that you witness, the issues that you have to resolve, and the challenges you have to navigate through are the things that separate an experienced person from a newbie.
I was once fortunate enough to have a conversation with someone who had been in the tech industry for nearly 15 years. Now well-established, settled, and earning a handsome salary, he told me the following words that I’ll never forget:
No matter how much you learn in the beginning, nothing beats experience. Nothing beats the frustration of figuring out where a bug is, what’s causing it, and how we can solve it in the most efficient way. Nothing beats the challenge of making sure your colleagues are on the same page when it comes to following standards. They don’t teach all that in college, you must learn it only by doing it.
The commitment and willingness to lifelong learning in any field is what makes a person an expert — a master of what he does. That’s what the world needs. It needs and will always need highly skilled, experienced minds working in a collaborative manner to tackle some of the world’s biggest problems.
And you can be part of that. Don’t take experience for granted, for it is a superpower attainable by any who walk the path of dedication, perseverance, and continuous learning.
It’s not just a tally of years on the job, but a testament to the depth of your commitment and passion for growth. One year of staying in a particular field is better than 3 months. A whole year of experience truly hones your skills. From there onwards, the journey continues, as you go through more experiences, further enhancing your craft and expertise in a field.
Whether it’s a developer or a soldier, experience is an irreplicable superpower that can’t be undermined. It’s a personal transformation that empowers you to surpass your limitations. And so, the pursuit of experience should not be taken lightly; it should be embraced as a lifelong commitment to growth, for therein lies the true potential for greatness.
