In this article, I’m going to discuss a common principle which gravitates around the self-improvement space online.
Does it hold any merit?
Or is it just a bunch of bogus?
The answer is actually highly nuanced.
Let’s get into it.
Many say you should resist the urge to reveal your goals to your inner circle.
This isn’t just smart but necessary.
Let me explain.
In the best case scenario, they don’t care.
They hear what you have to say and completely forget about it.
This will only make you feel like they aren’t valuing you, when really they’re just selfish.
There’s nothing wrong with that.
But the worst case scenario is far more destructive.
They could become envious and try to fill you with doubts.
They can label you with negative characteristics and remind you of how useless you used to be.
They’ll bring up past experiences where you failed miserably and say you’ll never outlive your past mistakes.
In essence, they’ll do everything in their power to sabotage your efforts.
If they do this, it’s time for you to break up with your friend.
You can stay friends with someone who doesn’t care about your goals.
But if they’re actively trying to destroy them, you need to do everything in your power to get away from them.
away from them.
What’s weird is, this reaction isn’t their fault.
They just don’t want you to change.
Because if you change, you’ll no longer be able to relate to them.
