A black hole is a region of spacetime where gravity is so strong that nothing, including light or other electromagnetic waves, has enough energy to escape its event horizon. The theory of general relativity predicts that a sufficiently compact mass can deform spacetime to form a black hole.
The European Space Agency, using the data from the Gaia mission, has discovered a new family of black holes that are unique in nature. What makes this discovery more interesting is that while one of the black holes is closest to Earth, the other one has been found to be the second closest to us.
Gaia BH1 and Gaia BH2 are located 1560 light-years away from us in the direction of the constellation Ophiuchus and 3800 light-years away in the constellation Centaurus. The distance is not far when seen in cosmic terms and scientists say that the two massive objects are just in our cosmic backyard.
The two black holes were picked up by the wobbles created in the movement of their companion stars. This wobble meant that the stars were not alone and they were orbiting a very massive object, nearly ten times more massive than our Sun. Scientists said that the two objects were completely black, invisible, and could only be detected due to the gravitational effects.

These new type of black holes does not emit any light BH1 and Gaia BH2 have the most widely separated orbits.
